This view of Half Dome reflecting in the quite
stream on the floor of Yosemite is well known
through published photos.  It is a picture I
had always hoped to see some day in real
life.   And though I had been to Yosemite
twice before (1969 and 2004), I had not seen
this view.  I began to wonder if perhaps the
photographer had captured this remarkable
site because he knew just where to go . . .
somewhere far off the beaten path.  Perhaps
a day's journey in and out.  Not so; this
classic view is close at hand.  It's just feet off
the paved path that circles the meadow . . .
very, very near.  Just minutes away.   Some
found this view, as we did.  Many just
continued down the paved path not knowing
the splendid natural treasure that easily
awaited them.  I was glad we found it.

May 2008 bring you to some of those
sites you've always hoped to see . . .
whether close at hand or a day or two off
the beaten path.
