Friday
|
- Arrive 6:15am in Goa; young men travelling on the train
help us with our luggage off the train and stay with us until
we are able to obtain a taxi; taxi (about 45 min. to an hour)
from station to our hotel, Royal Goan Beach Club, in
Baga, Goa.
- We learn we have arrived a day early (we were thinking
Friday-to-Friday; actually it was Saturday-to-Saturday);
however, we are able to get a room
- Late afternoon and evening activities
- We walk to the end of the road (staying right at the
Baga bridge - not crossing it) and continue onto a
walk path along the water (sea) and on high cliffs to
a hidden beach
- Returning from walk we met an Indian named Alex
who used to live in Westchester, NY. She
introduced us to his family and gave us a tour of his
newly constructed home
- Eat at a Greek restaurant close to our hotel; Steve
had a Greek salad and steak.

- IT RAINED TODAY - A LOT
- It rains all day
- Steve is very depressed because the hotel (our "time
share") is only a three-star hotel (and in previous years
we have stayed in 5-star hotels with amazing amenities)
- (Note: within 24-48 hours, Steve "re-frames" his
disappointment in the hotel by naming the whole
state of Goa as "five star" and by deciding to spend
their days on the back of a scooter - a motorized
bike! - Goa actually becomes a fantastic vacation,
one of their best vacations ever!)

- RAIN - NOT BAD AT ALL
- By noon we were on a rental bike (scooter) and on our
way to the upper fort at Aguda (we rent the bike for 4 days
and keep it for the full two weeks!)
- Alex, the neighbor we met on Friday (from Westchester,
NY), saw us on his motorized bike and offers to go with us
a bit; Jose rides on his bike; I drive our bike - first time
ever for me to drive a motorized bike; I follow Alex and
learn to control the bike
- At Calangut (Junction), Alex, Jose and Steve get drinks
together; Steve and Jose find a Western Union (closed)
- Jose on back of bike with Steve driving;
- To Agude Fort
- To "fishermen's cliff close to fort - walk down huge
cliffs to waters edge where fishermen are fishing
from the rocks
- To lower fort (Steve still uncharacteristically very
depressed about three star hotel; Jose is very
patient letting Steve work it through)
- Stop at a coffee shop for sandwiches
- To Calangnut Beach - all locals (no tourists) -
families and COWS on beach
- To Baga Beach (area where our hotel is); walk
beach (very nice), buy souvenirs
- To our hotel and swim;
- To La Bella Ciao Rest in Baga for Italian dinner
- To hotel - sit on our balcony; to bed around 11:

- RAIN - REAL, REAL HEAVY - ALL DAY LONG
- We spend all day at our hotel
- No electricity until noon (Steve made breakfast - eggs - on
gas stove)
- Steve on computer (using battery) and writing for Other
Sheep -- two entries (narratives on Kerala)
- In the afternoon - lunch at our hotel restaurant (Mexican
fajitas)
- Jose goes to hotel lobby to get on the Internet for Other
Sheep work (emails); he phones TV newsmen and learns
about TV segment on us being broadcasted
- Jose phones Steve in room about broadcast; Jose
comes to room to set up recorder and returns to
lobby (no Internet in our room);
- Steve records TV segment (Steve and Jose
interviewed) while Jose is in lobby answering his
and Steve's emails
- Jose's plans to go to Yoga class was canceled because
trainer not able to travel because of rain
- Jose answers Fridae.com's questions on "ex-gay"
- Jose and Steve sit on balcony -- still raining!
- Jose makes appointment with newspaper reporter to meet
on Monday

Summary Statement of our time in Goa, India:
Vacation time, media contacts made, writing narratives and
reports and emails, and networking
Our two weeks in Goa was our vacation time! Through our “time share” we stayed in a
three-star hotel in Baga, Goa, and explored the sites of Goa on a scooter. However, much
of our vacation time was used for Other Sheep ministry to
- contact media in person about Other Sheep accomplishments in Kerala (two to three
days in two major cities)
- A prerecorded interview with us was aired on two TV networks
- INDIA Goa News Prudent Media, August 3, 2011
- INDIA Goa, India HCN TV August 3, 2011
- The TV news aired the interview several times over a period of 24 hours; this
gave us on-sight recognition by the general public at times
- work with two university students on their idea to make an independent film (an
evening and a day)
- write narratives and reports about our time in Kerala and place them on the website
and blog (most mornings for two or three hours or more)
- do an on-line interview with Fridae.com (an afternoon or morning),
- maintain correspondence with Singapore and Nepal for our up-coming days there (a
couple days – into the afternoon).
- distribute to one church our literature
- as we did our sightseeing we most always spoke with people about Other Sheep
(because we were constantly being asked what we do)

The following table is
a diary of our daily activities transcribed from our notebook in which the diary was kept on
somewhat of a daily basis. Since most of the activities were vacation related, it has not been a
priority to complete this web page to date.
